VICE follows the story of Trimarco, a 17-year-old serving time at a Washington State youth jail, and who is about to be released on house arrest (along with the majority of the youth in that facility) in light of the dangers of COVID-19. Community activists who have long argued for juvenile criminal justice reform believe that if Trimarco and the other youth can demonstrate positive changes while out on house arrest, there is hope they will be able to convince the judge to keep these kids out of detention when they go back for their hearing in June.

In 2020, our team worked with VICE to document Trimarco’s story for these feature. To this day, we still work with Trimarco who just started his own podcast and organization to help youth re-entering from or facing incarceration.
